Under India's E-waste Management Rules, 2016, which are regulated by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India, producers of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) are required to obtain EPR authorization. This authorization is necessary for manufacturers, producers, and importers to fulfill their extended producer responsibility obligations related to the management of E-waste generated from their products.

The EPR authorization process, overseen by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), ensures that producers adhere to the prescribed guidelines for collection, recycling, and disposal of E-waste.
